Painting Our Home - March 2000

So.. in March we finally went and got all creative -- we decided having the whole house "modern" pinky white was getting a bit much, and so after some discussions with more art-aware friends of ours we had some folk from the church who were looking for work come over and paint our "posh" lounge and dining room. After much flicking through books, asking the lady in Home Depot's advice and polling our friends we went for the deep red dining room - modelled I have to note after that hallway in Windsor Castle which we thought looked rather fine - and a brown/gold colour called "reed" for the lounge as a lighter and slightly less formal retreat. We decided to leave the wainscoating (the wooden bits at the bottom) their original colour so it wouldn't get too intense. Anyway, here's the pictures - as usual with links through to bigger ones if you're really interetested.

the dining room before with our consultants John and Patti examining the various paint samples

the dining during the operation - what industrious and careful workpeople we had. Or is it a scene out of E.T.?

the final product - without everything back though, but doesn't it look great? Just need the cigars now, 'eh boys?

the lounge before - with our "work in progress" curtains not quite ready to go up yet, and Patti gravely considering the decisions and responsibility before her

the lounge during the operation with everything suited up - you can also see the two colours we considered for the walls - the green lost by virtue of just about being black. Not quite what we were looking for though Matt still would like to paint a room that colour one day.

the final product - you can see the two colours together and we think it looks pretty great. So there. Next to come (purportedly) is the blue room. But maybe not yet.
